One of my Favorite Historical Series

Review by Sarah:

I am going to talk about one of my favorite romance series, which is the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig.  This series starts with grad student Eloise Kelly trying to finish her dissertation on the Purple Gentian and the Scarlet Pimpernel.  But while doing research she stumbles upon another very elusive spy the Pink Carnation.  This leads her to a diary that is in the possession of the Selwick family.  This discovery also leads her to meeting the dashing Englishman Colin Selwick, who may have a few secrets of his own.  Willig really brings the Napoleonic era to life with a little espionage and a little romance. The women of Willig's books are not your simpering damsels in distress. They usually play an active part in the spy activities. What I like about these books is that the author jumps back and forth from present time to the past.  This segue is achieved by Eloise reading the diary.  The story of Eloise and Colin is spread out over the entire series while the spy/romance story is always finished within each book.  I will tell you upfront that these romances are on the milder end of the spectrum. Willig has seven books in this series with an eighth one coming out list month. If you would like to read more about Willig's books this is her official website: www.laurenwillig.com
