Signed book giveaway at our next meeting!

As most of our book group members already know, I've just been to a romance writer's conference in NYC.  One of the many perks at these conferences is free book giveaways from the authors and publishers, so I have a basket full of books to give away at our next meeting---most of them are signed by the authors.  Anyone who attends our next meeting can choose a book from the basket as a personal gift from me to you.  (The signed Keri Arthur, however, is for our new member who nominated her Mercy series for our summer reads---I had to wait in that line once I saw she was there!)

See you all soon,
Jan

P.S. I think I freaked Kim Harrison out a little bit---you'll all hear that story if you come to the meeting! :o)

  1. Heh, I'm very amused by trying to imagine what your Kim Harrison encounter was like. Did you tell her about your airplane seatmate? And signed book giveaways? How lucky can we get? Thanks for thinking of us! (I'm hoping there might be a signed Harrison book in that basket ...)

Looking forward to hearing the juicy details!

  2. Sorry, no Kim Harrison in there. There would have been if I hadn't been so busy acting like a crazy fan. She signed my name at the top (we all wear name tags) so I added it to our library collection---name and all! :o)

  3. Do I see 2 Sherrilyn Kenyon's in that basket?

  4. Three books actually. However, Sherrilyn's and Madeline Hunter's are the only ones not signed, all the others are! They were the luncheon speakers at the conference, and their books were on our seats. :o)
Sherrilyn gave one of the most inspirational speeches I've ever heard--it brought me to tears. I will share more at the meeting.

  7. I'm also new and planning to attend Thursday's meeting, assuming my husband/babysitter arrives home from work in time. How late is too late to arrive?

  12. LOL, I wouldn't have minded having your name in a Harrison book, Jan. At least it would have been someone I know.

For those who can't be at the meeting (indoors, I suspect, as it should be near 90 tomorrow), which author would you say had the best relationship with her fans?

  13. Sherrilyn Kenyon was amazing! When I say her speech was the most inspirational speech I have EVER heard I truly mean that. I'm trying to see if I can get a copy of it to show!

As far as the one I found the most personable... I would say it was a tie between Joyce Lamb, who writes romantic suspense---and Vicki Pettersson, who writes the "Sign of the Zodiac" series. Vicki actually dumped her own books out of a box for me---once she found out I was bringing all my books back to my library for our patrons. Her series is recommended by Charlaine Harris and Kim Harrison. Both authors will be nominated on our fall vote for our first 2011-2012 season. I also met the senior editor of Elora’s Cave (a publishing house of erotic fiction) who was a spunk ball. I’ll share that story as well at the meeting! :o)
    Hope to see you tomorrow!

  14. I just wanted to add... Pamela Palmer and Shana Abe were also very nice. And keep in mind there were hundreds there I didn't meet personally.

  16. It was great to meet you as well! I love when we can rattle off titles and our members have usually read the books, and even better when a new member has already read them. I can tell you'll be a great addition to the group!
